KATHMANDU, Nov 17: The government is issuing electronic passports from today. The Department of Passports (DoP) is preparing to issue e-passports from its new building located in Tripureshwor.

According to DoP, the introduction of e-passport is expected to replace the machine readable passport (MRP).The biometric passport is equipped with an electronic microprocessor chip and service seekers can get their passports on the same day.
Although the DoP will start issuing the electronic passport on Wednesday, the full-fledged service will resume after a week.
