KATHMANDU, Sept 5: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Monday said that the government will provide a total of Rs 500,000 each to the earthquake victims. According to him, out of the total amount, Rs 300,000 would be provided as a grant and Rs 200,000 as a public collateral loan.
Speaking at the Parliament’s Development Committee, PM Dahal mentioned that Rs 100,000 would be an addition to the earlier grant of Rs 200,000 for the earthquake victims.
“Additional Rs 100,000 will be provided to the earthquake victims to construct their houses. The decision to that end will be taken within few days,” Dahal said, “I am working to fulfill the dream of the earthquake victims to rebuild their houses”.
PM for increasing reconstruction grant to Rs 300,000
The previous government had decided to provide Rs 200,000 each to the earthquake victims.
The Prime Minister’s remark comes at a time when the government has already provided the first tranche of the grant. So far 75,962 earthquake victims have received Rs 50,000 as a first tranche of the grant.
On a separate note, PM Dahal said that an agreement will be reached with India on the construction of Postal Highway during his upcoming visit to the southern neighbor. PM Dahal is embarking on India visit on September 30.
“There has been an ice-break in the construction of the highway. A deal will be reached during my visit,” he said.
Postal Highway, the project that is regarded as a milestone in the development of Tarai, is stranded since nearly two decades.
Construction works have not move forward even though different agreements have been reached time and again for the construction of the much-touted highway.
