EC directs election campaigners not to use photos of martyrs for vote

Kathmandu, Dec 1: The Election Commission (EC) has urged the election campaigners to not use the photos of martyrs to seek votes.  The EC also directed the respective District Administration Offices, security agencies, and election observers to remove any photos of martyrs, and take actions against those screening videos and posting audios of movements for vote.

Kathmandu, Dec 1: The Election Commission (EC) has urged the election campaigners to not use the photos of martyrs to seek votes. 


The EC also directed the respective District Administration Offices, security agencies, and election observers to remove any photos of martyrs, and take actions against those screening videos and posting audios of movements for votes.

"The move of using martyrs for influencing vote has drawn the attention of the EC," said EC's Spokesperson Nawaraj Dhakal. The EC has also asked social networking site users not to use photos, videos, and audios of martyrs on social media like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for influencing the voter, he said. 


Meanwhile, Election Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Shah has said that preparations are on for maximum utilization and mobilization of available means and resources to conduct the polls in a free, fair and fearless manner. 


Shah, who is also the coordinator of high-level security committee formed for elections, said that all possible measures would be implemented to conduct the polls in a peaceful manner. 

The government has mobilized a total of 272,000 security forces including the personnel of Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, Nepal, Nepal Police, National Investigation Department and Temporary Police. 


During a meeting held at the EC regarding the security issues, Shah said that the security bodies were given full rights to take action against the criminal groups involved in anti-polls activities adding that the security bodies were capable to providing security to politicians, candidates, officials, and voters.
