EC estimates Rs 10 billion spending to hold Federal and Provincial Assembly elections

KATHMANDU, August 4: The Election Commission (EC) has estimated that Rs 10 billion will be spent for the purpose of holding elections to the Federal Parliament and Provincial Assembly scheduled for November 20.

KATHMANDU, August 4: The Election Commission (EC) has estimated that Rs 10 billion will be spent for the purpose of holding elections to the Federal Parliament and Provincial Assembly scheduled for November 20.


According to the EC, Rs 2.2 billion more will be spent to hold the Federal Parliament and Provincial Assembly elections to be held in single phase in November as compared to the elections held in 2017.

EC spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Paudel said that Rs 7.8 billion was spent to hold the Federal Parliament and Provincial Assembly elections in 2017. 


The EC plans to demand the budget based on the estimate that the election expenses will be increased as the inflation has doubled as compared to 2017.


EC Spokesperson Paudel informed that Rs 5 billion was spent to hold local level elections held on May 13. The estimated amount will be spent for election purposes including security, ballot printing, and the management of election staff.
