KATHMANDU, Jan 19: Members of the Election Commission (EC) and Public Service Commission have demanded that the government revise the recently introduced order of precedence saying that the decision has undermined the institutional dignity of the constitutional bodies.
A board meeting of the election body on Friday urged the government to review the new order of precedence. The election body wants to place the public office bearers of the constitutional bodies immediately after their respective chiefs in the order of precedence. PSC has also demanded a revision.

Previously, members and commissioners of the constitutional bodies were placed higher than the chief of Nepal Army. But the recently revised order of precedence places the members of constitutional bodies below the army chief. The hierarchy of chiefs of constitutional bodies, however, remains unchanged.
“The new order of precedence not only undermines the office bearer positions but also undermines the institutional standing of the constitutional bodies,” reads the press release issued Friday by the EC.
On January 10, the government brought the new order of precedence to define the hierarchy of functionaries and officials by reshuffling the protocol list of February 2018.
The government had reviewed the order of precedence to address the grievance of the provincial assembly speakers, deputy speakers and chiefs and deputy chiefs of rural municipalities.
