EC receives Rs 8 billion in assurance for holding local level polls

KATHMANDU, March 3: The Election Commission (EC) has said it received assurance of Rs 8.11 billion from the Ministry of Finance (MoF) for holding the upcoming local level election.

KATHMANDU, March 3: The Election Commission (EC) has said it received assurance of Rs 8.11 billion from the Ministry of Finance (MoF) for holding the upcoming local level election.


EC Spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Poudel said that the MoF has communicated to the EC confirming the budget. Prior to this, the EC had urged the MoF to provide Rs 8.95 billion for the purpose of holding the local level poll.

Spokesperson Poudel said although the budget is less than the demand put forth by the EC the government has expressed commitment to ensure an adequate budget needed for holding the poll. 


A total of 80 political parties have submitted their application seeking registration for the purpose of local level polls. The name of the political parties contesting the upcoming local level election would be released within March 10, according to EC.


Paudel said names of the chief returning officers and returning officers to be deployed for the local level poll have already been received.  The EC has already announced to update the voter’s name list by March 10. (RSS)
