Education Minister Shrestha clarifies she has not acquired citizenship of Poland

KATHMANDU, July 10: Minister for Education, Science and Technology Sumana Shrestha has clarified that she has not obtained citizenship of Poland.

KATHMANDU, July 10: Minister for Education, Science and Technology Sumana Shrestha has clarified that she has not obtained citizenship of Poland.


She made such a remark in response to a letter sent by the National Vigilance Center (NVC) stating that they received a complaint against Minister Shrestha that she had obtained the citizenship of a European country. She posted a video on social media explaining that she had not obtained citizenship or a passport of any foreign country.

Shrestha said that her husband is a citizen of Poland, but she has not yet obtained citizenship of Poland. Minister Shrestha said she did not even know the process of obtaining citizenship of Poland until she received the letter from the NVC. 


Upon inquiring, she said that she found that one can apply for citizenship of Poland only after residing in the country for several years. She said that it has been nearly 120 days since she assumed the role of Education Minister but she has never stayed in Poland for such a long time.
