Education Minister Shrestha directs Medical Education Commission to provide affiliation to B & C Hospital

KATHMANDU, June 12: Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Krishna Gopal Shrestha has directed the Medical Education Commission to grant affiliation to Jhapa-based B & C Medical College and Teaching Hospital to run a medical college.

KATHMANDU, June 12: Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Krishna Gopal Shrestha has directed the Medical Education Commission to grant affiliation to Jhapa-based B & C Medical College and Teaching Hospital to run a medical college.


A meeting of the commission held on Friday in the presence of Chairman of the commission and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Education Minister Shrestha directed the commission to grant affiliation to the B&C Medical College at the earliest possible date.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Oli maintained that Nepal will be developed as a medical education hub and directed the commission to develop educational plans and policies accordingly. He also stated that it is not right to obstruct the commission to provide affiliation to medical colleges that have completed the regulatory process necessary for affiliation.


Minister Shrestha directed the commission to submit a file to Prime Minister Oli regarding the decision to provide affiliation to Jhapa-based B & C Medical College if it has fulfilled the legal process, according to Basruddin Ansari, Chairman of Association of Private Medical Colleges.


Meanwhile, protests and demonstrations have erupted in Kathmandu against the government’s preparation to grant affiliation to the B & C Medical College and Teaching Hospital.


As many as 20 civil society leaders protesting against the government’s preparation to give affiliation to B & C Medical College and Teaching Hospital were arrested from Baluwatar on Friday.
