Eight Indians die from suffocation in Makawanpur

KATHMANDU, Jan 21: Eight Indian nationals, who were found unconscious in a suite of a resort in Makawanpur, died in course of treatment at Hams Hospital in Kathmandu, police said.

KATHMANDU, Jan 21: Eight Indian nationals, who were found unconscious in a suite of a resort in Makawanpur, died in course of treatment at Hams Hospital in Kathmandu, police said.


Spokesperson at the Metropolitan Police Kathmandu Kiran Bajracharya confirmed that the eight Indian tourists died during treatment.


The identities of the deceased have yet to be ascertained, Bajracharya said adding that the postmortem is currently underway.

Earlier today, they were airlifted to Kathmandu from Makawanpur. The Indians were found unconscious in the suite of a resort in Daman, Thaha municipality of Makawanpur district earlier this morning.


The Indian tourists hailing from Kerala comprising two couples and four children were found unconscious.


As part of their trip, they had reached their hotel at 9: 00 pm on Monday from Pokhara. Of the 15 Indians, nine stayed in a room and turned on a gas heater to keep them warm. "All the windows and the doors were bolted from inside," said a staffer of the hotel.  Rest of six Indians had stayed in another room.


Makawanpur Police said that the investigation is underway. "They may have died due to lack of ventilation," an official at the Makawanpur Police told Republica Online by phone.
