According to Umakanta Sharma, general secretary of the Federation of Heavy Equipment Entrepreneurs Association of Nepal, local representatives are massively involved in 'private businesses for their vested interest'.

"We are supposed to operate heavy equipment like dozers and excavators. But what we see here is that the local representatives are doing this," he said.

Sharma said that the people's representatives started using their own machines at the local level and barred the operators from using their machines. This is against the law as a registered company can use their equipment anywhere in the country, argued Sharma.

According to Sharma, due to lack of skilled mechanics in Nepal, the country has to rely on Indian mechanics. “Due to this, a lot of Nepali youths have been forced to migrate to foreign lands for employment while Indian mechanics get chance to earn money here,” he said
