KATHMANDU, March 12: After 14 years, the Free Students' Union (FSU) election process has started in the affiliated campuses of Tribhuvan University (TU). Nominations were registered on Saturday for the elections scheduled for March 19. For the first time since 2009, elections are going to be held in 62 constituent and 1,040 affiliated campuses across the country under the University.
Earlier in the year 2017, the election of FSU was announced, but the election was held only on some campuses. This time nominations have been registered in most of the campuses, said the member secretary of the FSU Central Election Monitoring and Coordination Committee and Director of TU Student Welfare and Sports Directorate, Professor Pashupati Adhikari.

According to Prof Adhikari, the FSU has been elected unopposed in two campuses. He said that All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU) was elected in Dhankuta Multipurpose Campus and FSU was elected unopposed under the leadership of All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union (Revolutionaries) (ANNISU (R) ) in Gorkha Multipurpose Campus.
Similarly, the professor informed Republica that they were elected unopposed in some affiliated campuses in Dhading, Western Rukum, Dolpa, Humla, Sindhupalchok and other districts. The student organizations affiliated to the alliance with the Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist) Party have coordinated in the campuses of various districts including the Kathmandu Valley in the FSU elections.
CPN-UML student organization ANNFSU has also given candidature in some places in coordination with other student organizations. In the main campuses of the valley, Nepali Congress's Nepal Student Union, Maoist Center's ANNISU (R) and ANNISU affiliated with CPN (Unified Socialist)'s have coordinated for the elections. Meanwhile, during the nomination process, there has been a dispute between student organizations in the capital's Ratna Rajya Laxmi, Gramin Adarsha, Baneshwar, Koteshwar campuses.
