According to Police Inspector Bhawan Babu Khadka, a pair of elephants from the nearby Ratuwamai Tree Plantation Project  entered the settlement at around 2:00 am today to dismantle the hut where the Regmi family was residing. Though Regmi tried to escape the tragedy by running away, the animal followed him until to trample him, leaving him dead.

However, the victim’s spouse and a granddaughter managed to save their lives by fleeing. The Regmi family had built a hut on a piece of land belonging to the Armed Police Force. Kamal Rural Municipality-5 ward chair Dambar Bahadur Niraula said  later the locals chased away the animals back to the jungle. Elephant menace is frequent in the area.
