Embossed number plate can now be written in both English and Nepali

KATHMANDU, April 5: The government has made necessary arrangements for the embossed number plates attached to vehicles to be written in Nepali language as well.


A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Monday decided to give approval to amend the Schedule-2 of the Vehicle and Transport Management Act, 2049 BS.

Along with this, embossed number plates can be written in both Devanagari and English script. The government resolved this matter, which has been a matter of dispute and debate for a long time, on Monday.


In a press conference held on Tuesday to publicize the decisions of the cabinet meeting, Minister of Communication and Information Technology Rekha Sharma said that the provision for writing English letters and numbers on the embossed number plate has been amended to allow writing it in Devanagari script as well.


Minister Sharma, who is also the government’s spokesperson, said that a legal arrangement has been made to allow writing in both Nepali and English languages on embossed number plates.
