Employee convicted in security printing press purchase corruption scam found dead

KATHMANDU, May 24: An employee who was convicted in the case of corruption in the purchase of a security printing press by the Security Printing Center has been found dead.


Senior Divisional Engineer Nabin Kumar Pokharel was found hanging on Thursday, District Police Range, Bhaktapur said. A suicide note was also found in the house, so the police suspect that he may have committed suicide. However, according to police sources, the suicide note says that no one is to blame, saying that he is responsible for his own death.

According to Police Circle, Thimi, a post-mortem examination of his body was done at Kathmandu Medical College, Duwakot on Thursday. The examination results are awaited.


Pokharel was working at the under secretary level at the Ministry of Forests and Environment before the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) registered the case.


Recently, the Special Court convicted Pokharel along with the then executive director Bikal Poudel, Rohit Man Pradhan, managing director of Engineering Marketing Concern and Bhuwan Maharjan, director of Meptech Building Services.


They were found guilty and sentenced to jail and fine. In this case, five other people who were made defendants by the CIAA were acquitted.
