Energy ministry announces free electricity meters for Jajarkot quake victims

JAJARKOT, Nov 24: The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation is going to provide free electricity meters to the Jajarkot earthquake victims.


On the night of November 3, an earthquake of 6.4 magnitudes struck Ramidanda in Jajarkot, resulting in 154 fatalities and 346 injuries. The earthquake caused complete destruction to 26,557 private houses and partial damage to 35,455 houses.

Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Shakti Bahadur Basnet, announced the initiative to distribute free electricity meters to those affected by the earthquake. Additionally, preparations are underway to provide 'Solar Systems' to individuals in the areas where electricity services are unavailable through the Alternative Energy Promotion Center.


Minister Basnet stated, "The center's staff is currently collecting data, and the distribution of solar systems will commence as soon as the data is available." Among the severely affected areas by the quake are Nalgad, Bheri, and Barekot.
