KATHMANDU, June 26: The Narayanghat-Butwal road expansion project, which should be completed by the first week of August this year, according to the contract signed for the road project, has witnessed only 18 percent work progress so far.
The government handed over the contract of the national pride project to China State Construction Engineering Corporation Limited on February 7, 2019. The project construction was supposed to be completed in 42 months from the date of signing the contract.

The 114 km long stretch of the East-West Highway is being expanded in four to six lane wide roads. The road segment will have 12 big and 22 small bridges.
According to the project officials, road expansion has been delayed due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Out of an estimated investment of Rs 16.99 billion for the project construction, the Asian Development Bank is providing 85 percent of the amount in loan.
