Experts call for increasing people's access to RTI

KATHMANDU, Sept 28: Heads of civil society organizations have stressed that the State should not lag behind in effective implementation of constitutional and legal provisions related to the right to information.

KATHMANDU, Sept 28: Heads of civil society organizations have stressed that the State should not lag behind in effective implementation of constitutional and legal provisions related to the right to information. 


Speakers of the first session of the first national conference and convention organized by the National Federation of Right to Information here today on the occasion of International Day for Universal Access to Information shared that laws would not be effectively implemented unless general people's access to information is established.  


On the occasion, president of the Federation of Nepali Journalists, Bipul Pokharel, mentioned that the State should have strong thinking that information should be provided to the citizens as RTI has an important role in good governance.

He further said, "RTI has not been effectively implemented yet. The State should not lag behind in providing the right to information." 


Likewise, information officer of the National Indigenous Commission, Sanjila Sapkota, opined that the citizens have easy access to information upon the Commission's activities. 


Similarly, spokesperson for the Department of Livestock Service, Dr Chandra Dhakal, shared that information related to daily necessities of farmers involved in animal husbandry are being disseminated. 


President of the NGO Federation of Nepal, Ram Prasad Subedi, further said cooperation for the implementation of laws was necessary as NGOs are helping hands on the issues of RTI.  


September 28 is observed as The International Day for Universal Access to Information.
