KATHMANDU, Jan 27: Experts have pointed out that there has been an increase in air accidents in Nepal due to non-compliance with the principles specified by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Former director general of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) Sanjib Gautam, director general of the then Civil Aviation Department Nepal Birendra Bahadur Deuja, former engineer of Nepal Airlines Corporation Achyut Raj Pahadi mentioned that there is a shortage of skilled manpower to secure Nepal's airspace and emphasized that such manpower should be supplied immediately.
Speaking at the meeting of the National Concerns and Coordination Committee under the National Assembly of the Federal Parliament on Friday at Singha Durbar, former engineer director of Nepal Airlines, Pahadi said that if the standards specified by ICAO are fully followed, Nepal's air service will be safe and accidents will be minimized.

He said that the Nepali air service providers should also pay special attention to the management of skilled manpower.
Former director general of the CAAN, Gautam said that to make Nepal's air service safe, emphasis should be placed on improving the efficiency of the regulatory bodies. He drew the serious attention of the government to structural reforms for air service safety.
Birendra Bahadur Deuja, the former director general of the then Civil Aviation Department, pointed out that there is a need for the service providers to proceed in a professional manner to make Nepal's air service safe and reliable. He clarified that air accidents in Nepal can be minimized even if we proceed based on the suggestions given by the air accident reports.
Deuja also said that Nepal's air service is safe and that the related agencies should be more responsible in making it more reliable.
