Eye clinic established at Janasewa Community Hospital

KHOTANG, Dec 8: An eye clinic has been established at Janasewa Community Hospital at Majuwa Gadhi Municipality-12 in Khotang district. Aiming at solving the eye-related problems of the locals, Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology, District Community Eye Center (DCEC), Solukhumbu, ward office, Jansewa Samaj Nepal, and Janasewa Community Hospital established the 'Janasewa Rural Eye Clinic'.

KHOTANG, Dec 8: An eye clinic has been established at Janasewa Community Hospital at Majuwa Gadhi Municipality-12 in Khotang district. Aiming at solving the eye-related problems of the locals, Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology, District Community Eye Center (DCEC), Solukhumbu, ward office, Jansewa Samaj Nepal, and Janasewa Community Hospital established the 'Janasewa Rural Eye Clinic'. 


The clinic was inaugurated by Tanka Rai, a former lawmaker of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) amid a function. The clinic has started providing services to the locals from Saturday itself.

According to Dhurba Shrestha, president of Janasewa Community Hospital, the locals don't have to travel elsewhere for eye-related problems now. “The locals will be benefited by the clinic. The locals don't have to spend a hefty amount of money for getting health services,” Shrestha said.


The locals are excited after the establishment of the eye clinic at the hospital. The Janasewa Community Hospital was established in 2013 at the initiative of Janasewa Samaj Nepal. Locals from Kepilas Gadhi Rural Municipality, Aiselukharkha Rural Municipality, Sawabeshi Rural Municipality, among others will benefit from the clinic.


The Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology (TIO) has handed over surgical equipment worth Rs 500,000 to the clinic. Bhagirath Baniya, director at TIO, handed over the equipment to Dhurba Shrestha, president of Janasewa Community Hospital amid the function on Saturday.


On Saturday, a total of 97 patients had their eyes checked up at the clinic. Of the patients, seven need a cataract surgery, according to the clinic.


The participants of the function ensured that they will make the locals in the region aware about the clinic. Shrestha said that the clinic will also set up eye treatment camps in the region.
