BAJURA, June 22: With the onset of monsoon this year, many of the farmers in agriculture-dependent Bajura district are busy working in their farms. As the second phase of local elections slated for June 28 clashes with the farming season, candidates vying for various positions of the local units in the upcoming elections are visiting farmers in their farms for canvassing.
Just like agriculture matters a lot to the farmers, winning the elections is the same for the candidates. They are, therefore, leaving no stones unturned to secure every vote they can get. As the farmers have no time to attend political parties" election speeches, corner meetings, and other campaigns, candidates have no choice but to visit the farms to win over the voters" trust and votes.
Udayapur locals worried more about farming than casting votes
Local election in Bajura, which falls in Province-7, has been slated for June 28. With the historic election day now just five days away, Province-7 including Bajura district is increasingly being heated with the election fever. When they visit the farms, many of them even help the farmers in fields so as to win their heart and campaign for their elections.
According to candidates, they hardly meet anyone during their door-to-door election campaigns as most of the people are busy in farm works. Even when they hold big campaigns, participation from locals is not so exciting due to farming works.
“But this is not a big deal. As we too are farmers, we understand them and haven"t taken it otherwise,” said Ram Bahadur Baniya, a mayoral candidate of Budiganga Municipality.
Candidates from big parties to fringe ones are busy wooing the voters as the competition in election battlefields are bound to be competitive.
