Federal govt allocates Rs 21.6 billion for post-quake reconstruction

SURKHET, May 29:  The federal government has granted Rs 21.6 billion for the post-earthquake reconstruction in Ramidada, Barekot Rural Municipality, Jajarkot.


During the presentation of the budget in parliament on Tuesday, Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun said that the amount had been allocated for the reconstruction of houses destroyed by earthquake in Jajarkot, West Rukum and others districts.


In the budget speech, Pun said that the reconstruction of houses damaged by the earthquake in Jajarkot and West Rukum will be carried out rapidly after conducting a survey. A budget of Rs 21.6 billion has been allocated for the post-quake reconstruction.

Likewise, the government has earmarked Rs 1.5 billion for infrastructure development in Karnali and Madhesh provinces. Likewise, Rs 2 billion has been allocated in the budget for the construction of headwork and electricity units of the Bheri Babai Diversion Multipurpose Project (BBDMP). In the budget speech, Rs 820 million has been allocated for the Integrated Karnali Irrigation Development Project by implementing it in all the 10 districts of Karnali.


Similarly, the government has allocated Rs 600 million for the 10th National Games which will be held in Biratnagar, Karnali Province in the upcoming Mid-November. The government has also allocated a budget for the development of the area around Sharda River in Salyan and Jumla as agricultural corridors and the area around Hima River and Tila River in Jumla as Marsi Rice corridors.


Likewise, a total of five bridges and 50 kilometers of road will be upgraded in the upcoming fiscal year in the Karnali corridor. Similarly, along with the upgradation of Ratna Highway and Karnali Highway, the government has taken a policy to formulate a master plan to modernize the  city of Bheriganga valley of Surkhet in the hilly region.


The government announced the plans to develop Dho of Dolpa and Limi valley of Jumla as tourist centers with the construction of model settlements and develop Karnali as a herbal center as well. Additionally, the budget mentions that a prosperous Karnali entrepreneurship program based on agriculture and forest production will be conducted.


The amount for mid-day lunch which was being provided to the students of Humla, Jumla, Mugu, Dolpa and Kalikot district has been increased. Furthermore, the budget speech announced the construction of 500 beds at Karnali Provincial Hospital in Birendranagar, Surkhet.
