First round of Women’s Squat Tournament concluded

KATHMANDU, March 7: The fourth Inter-Club Women’s Squat Tournament started from Wednesday at the Jasmine Fitness and Spa in Tripureshwar, Kathmandu with 19 players making their way to the final to be played on Thursday.

KATHMANDU, March 7: The fourth Inter-Club Women’s Squat Tournament started from Wednesday at the Jasmine Fitness and Spa in Tripureshwar, Kathmandu with 19 players making their way to the final to be played on Thursday.


From the under 60kg weight category, Ankita Shikari, Smile Shakya, Jyoti Thapa, Champa Balami, Sujita Manandhar, Oliva Maharjan, Rejina Rai and Aruna Basnet entered into the last round, while Ankita Khadka crashed out from the first round. 


Shikari, Smile, Thapa, Manandhar, Maharjan, Rai and Basnet all carried 10kg in the first round, 15kg in the second round, and 20kg in the third round. All of them carried 10kg in the first round, while Khadka failed to carry 15kg and 20kg in the first round and crashed out from the selection round.

Likewise, in the over 60kg weight category, Sawana Khatun, Prabina Gurung, Suruchi Shrestha, Barsha Kansakar, Nirmala Pujari, Bipasi Tuladhar, Yojana Bhattarai, Devika Khatri, Uma Maharjan and Bidha Rai secured their places in the final round, while Rejina Shrestha went out from the first round. 


They all carried 15kg in the first round, 20kg in the second and 50kg in the third round, while Rejina carried 15kg, but failed to lift 20kg and went out. 


From this edition of the tournament, a new rule which stated that the participants could choose the weight category they want to compete in from the first round. 


The participating players got three chances in both the categories. Among that, the players had to lift the weight for at least two times to enter the last round from the qualifiers. 


The player who lifts the highest weight in the final round will win the tournament. The winners of both the categories will take home a cash prize of Rs 60,000 each, while the runner-ups will be rewarded with Rs 30,000. Likewise, the third-placed players will win Rs 20,000 each.
