Five dozen journalists infected with COVID-19 in Province 1, one dead

ITAHARI, May 19: As many as 60 journalists in Province 1 have been infected with the novel coronavirus diseases (COVID-19).


According to Bibek Gautam, general secretary of the Federation of Nepali Journalists Province 1 Committee, the highest infected tally is from Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari and Udayapur districts.

Jhapa district tops the list with 19 journalists currently battling with the pandemic.


Similarly,there are 15, 13 and three infected journalists in Morang, Sunsari and Udayapur, respectively. The number is three each in Taplejung and Panchthar while Khotang has two infected journalists.   


Likewise, there is one journalist infected with COVID-19  each in Okhaldhunga and Bhojpur.


Out of the 60 journalists, three are undergoing treatment at Intensive Care Unit (ICUs) and ventilator, said Gautam. He also added that one journalist has succumbed to COVID-19 and most of the infected journalists are in home isolation.
