The settlement of Chamar, Mushahar and Muslim communities were waterlogged. Aisha Khatun, a single woman in the settlement, worried, “We are poor people. Who pays heed to our voices?”

According to her, the inundation was caused due to wanton and excessive excavation of sand and aggregates in a small pond that was at the top of their settlement.

The incessant rain that continued from Tuesday has swollen Ratu River, and many settlements in the district such as Bhagawatipur, Bhalani, Leuri and Banchauri in Balawa Municipality, and Kabilasha of Bhaghaha Municipality were at risk of inundation.
