DHANGADI / DAILEKH, July 19: Incessant rainfall since Sunday night has inundated dozen of areas in Kailali district. It has already displaced about 45 families in Tikapur and affected hundreds of others throughout the district.
Inundation has caused significant damages to 41 houses in Tikapur-9, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rajendra Bista of District Police Office (DPO), Kailali. Most of the displaced families are taking shelter on the premises of Nepal Primary School.
“We have rescued five families and brought them to safer places. Tikapur Municipality is using its dozers to ease water flow in waterlogged places,” he added.
Road damage likely to affect Rasuwagadhi hydropower project
Meanwhile, floods and landslides have caused huge damage to 3.75-Megawatt Dwari River Hydropower Project in Dailekh district. Damages in pipelines and dam site have caused a loss of about Rs 20 million, according to construction promoter Bhurgol Energy Development Company.
“Our construction works were nearing an end and we could have started generating electricity within two months had the floods and landslides not caused damages at the construction site,” said the company's site in-charge Santosh Karki.
Locals of Dailekh, who were confident that they would not have to face load-shedding after two months, have been left completely dejected by the incident.
According to Karki, the project would be able to generate electricity only after February next year.
