KATHMANDU, August 4: Fluctuations in the water level of the Saptakoshi River continue. Last night, water flowed through the Koshi barrage at a rate of 242,965 cusecs.
Chief District Officer (CDO) of Sunsari, Indradev Yadav said that the flow of water was 229,350 cusecs at 6 o'clock this morning. Similarly, according to the measurement at 8 o'clock today, the water flowed at 228,025 cusecs.
Saptakoshi crosses danger level, 24 floodgates open
Out of the 56 sluice gates of the Koshi barrage, 41 sluice gates have been opened now. CDO Yadav said that although the Koshi River has overflowed and entered the settlement of Dumribote of Belaka Municipality, Udaypur, the flow of water through the Koshi barrage continues to fluctuate.
CDO Yadav said that due to fluctuations in the flow of water in Saptakoshi, lands have started to be eroded to the north of Sri Lanka Island in, Gowargadha in Saptari, Dumribot in Belaka Municipality in Udaypur and Lakhkhoch. The rescue team is ready to take the local residents of the eroded area to a safe place.
CDO Yadav said that a notice has also been issued to the local residents to be prepared. He said that all precautionary measures to be taken by the local administration have been adopted to prevent any kind of human loss and other damage from Koshi.
