KATHMANDU, Aug 15: Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has urged its members to support containment measures and other health protocols introduced by all three tiers of the government to combat COVID-19.

Issuing a statement on Friday, FNCCI—the umbrella organization of businesses and industries—has also said that the private sector should also work to fulfill its own responsibility during the pandemic. It also asked its members to support the government for the successful implementation of all programs, plans and announcements.

“The federal, provincial and local governments are continuously working actively to control coronavirus infection for the health safety of the public,” read the statement. “We would like to express our commitment as well as assure that the FNCCI will provide the support on all initiatives taken by all three levels of the government in this regard,” the FNCCI said in the statement.

The statement of the FNCCI comes in the wake of a rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in recent weeks, prompting governments to reimpose a number of containment measures.

While the federal government has not imposed complete nation-wide lockdown as in the past, sub-national governments have been introducing measures including closure of various businesses in the areas that have witnessed huge numbers of COVID-19 cases.

The FNCCI has asked its members to support the government in the implementation of those containment measures citing that the health safety was undoubtedly the first priority during the pandemic.

The FNCCI has also expressed its commitment to mobilize its nation-wide network in all the programs of the federal, provincial and local governments to combat the spread of coronavirus. It also urged its members to not rely only on the government during this sensitive time and take necessary measures to prevent infection and slow the transmission rate.
