KATHMANDU, Aug 22: The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) today launched the Education Scholarship to Journalists' Children program from Jajarkot.
Children of the district-based journalist late Bir Bahadur Shahi are the first beneficiary of the scholarship instituted by the FNJ, an umbrella organization of media people, with a view to supporting education of children of those journalists murdered or died accidentally while on duty.
FNJ central treasurer Suryamani Gautam Monday handed a cheque of Rs 50,000 to Shahi's spouse Saraswoti as fellowship grant.
According to Gutam, children of four journalists will be provided with the fellowship this year under the journalists' social security program.
Shahi, the member of FNJ Jajarkot chapter had died after being hit by a falling tree at Naayakbada on February 2, 2015. He is survived by two sons - one five year and another two year-old. RSS
