BIRENDRANAGAR, August 4: Seven out of 10 districts in Karnali State often face food crisis. Dailekh, Jajarkot, Kalikot, Jumla, Humla, Dolpa and Mugu are the districts which can manage food stuff hardly for three months with its little product.
According to the Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives in the State, these districts rely on Surkhet, Rukum and Salyan districts. The Ministry said the Karnali State faces the shortage of 25,000 metric tons of food grains. Only 3,26,000 metric tons of food grains are produced here against the annual need of 3,52,000 metric tons. Random plotting of land, no cultivation in the arable land, lack of irrigation and crunch of improved seeds are major reasons behind the food crisis here.

Similarly, due to hostile geography, the mountainous districts produce only fruits and herbs. As a result, the State is bound to import food grains, said Ministry Spokesperson, Hari Pandit, adding that even the technical human resources and agricultural roads were dire need of the State.
