Fourty nine–year- old Lakhpa Dorjee Tamang lives in Indrachowk and works as a porter. He is originally from Rasuwa. Thirty years ago Lakhpa came to the city of his  dreams—Kathmandu--with an aim to do business and earn his living.

He started to sell clothes along with his business partners. However, his dreams shattered as his partners betrayed him. He lost all his money and that turned him to what he is today. He loves his freedom and does not like to be under someone, he says.

“I choose to be a porter cause I am my own boss and if I don’t feel like working I can just go to my room and sleep. I rather not eat for a whole day than live under someone else. Due to my advancing age these day I have to choose what to carry and what not to, life is hard but I am doing enough for my survival and I am happy with that.”
