MORANG, Nov 9: Minister of Forests and Environment of Province 1 and provincial assembly member candidate of the Nepali Congress (NC) from constituency 3 (a) of Morang for the upcoming elections Shekhar Chandra Thapa has passed away on Wednesday morning.
Thapa, 58, a resident of Pathari Shanishchare Municipality-8 Sakhara, Morang, died at the Nobel Teaching Hospital in Biratnagar at around 10:30AM on Wednesday according to the hospital administration.

Thapa had a health problem after registering his nomination on October 9. After he got sick, he was admitted to Nobel hospital for checkup. He was tested positive for Dengue infection and was also confirmed with pneumonia and piles. As his condition became critical, he was brought to Kathmandu on October 13 by helicopter for further treatment.
Relatives brought him to Biratnagar saying that after 25 days of treatment at the Hams Hospital in Kathmandu, his health condition was returning to normal. Hospital Manager Narayan Dahal informed that Thapa died during treatment after being admitted to Nobel hospital due to respiratory problems on Monday.
Dahal said Thapa's condition was critical when he was admitted to the hospital. He worked as the private secretary of former Prime Minister late Girija Prasad Koirala for eight years. Thapa was elected as proportional Member of Parliament in 2074 BS.
Lewan Kashyap, Chief of Province 1 Election Office, informed the media about the death and that the EC office will postpone other activities and proceed with the process including nominations by making an agenda. Late Thapa is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
