Four-wheelers banned in city’s shopping districts during Dashain

KATHMANDU, Oct 9: Metropolitan Traffic Police Office (MTPO) is planning to ban four-wheelers in the busy shopping areas in Kathmandu Valley in its bid to ease traffic congestion during the Dashain festival.

KATHMANDU, Oct 9: Metropolitan Traffic Police Office (MTPO) is planning to ban four-wheelers in the busy shopping areas in Kathmandu Valley in its bid to ease traffic congestion during the Dashain festival.


The MTPO has identified New Road, Asan, Basantapur and Mahabauddha as the areas which are chock-a-block with festival shoppers and is planning to ban four-wheelers in those areas during the Dashain shopping season. The office said that the ban is aimed at easing pedestrian movement.

According to the chief of the MTPO, SSP Basanta Pant, they are working to make parking arrangements for four-wheelers in the periphery of the shopping districts. 


Shoppers swarm the shopping hubs especially from Ghatasthapana, the first day of the 15-day Dashain festival, to buy clothes, gifts and worship items.
