Franchise-based women’s volleyball league in October

KATHMANDU, Aug 3: Nepal Volleyball Association (NVA), in a bid to commercialize the national game, is organizing women’s volleyball league including franchise clubs starting this October. The league will be organized in coordination with Aadhi Awadhi Foundation of India. The government recognized volleyball as the national game of Nepal 14 months ago.

KATHMANDU, Aug 3: Nepal Volleyball Association (NVA), in a bid to commercialize the national game, is organizing women’s volleyball league including franchise clubs starting this October. The league will be organized in coordination with Aadhi Awadhi Foundation of India. The government recognized volleyball as the national game of Nepal 14 months ago. 


The association, which signed a 10-year contract with the foundation, will be including six clubs in the first year of the tournament. The three departmental teams--Armed Police Force Club (APF), Tribhuvan Army Club and Nepal Police Club, including Kathmandu Queens, Chitwan Tigers and Pokhara Pinks will take part in the tournament. Each team is allowed to include four foreign players and can field three of them in the starting lineup.

The President of the association Manoranjan Sharma and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the foundation Dinesh Kumar Singh signed an agreement on Thursday.


The foundation will assist Rs 1.5 million every year plus all the tournament expenses. The foundation has already provided Rs 800,000 to NVA. The remaining Rs 700,000 will be provided after the tournament.


The tournament, which will be held at the National Sports Council (NSC) covered hall, will reward the tournament winner with Rs 600,000, while the runner-up and third-placed team will bag a purse of Rs 300,000 and Rs 150,000 respectively. Likewise, the best player of the tournament will get a scooter and Rs 50,000.
