KATHMANDU, July 12: Kathmandu Metropolitan Mayor Balendra Shah (Balen) and filmmakers discussed the issue of entertainment tax, digital boards and a welfare fund on Tuesday.

The filmmakers participating in the discussion, led by Ashok Sharma, demanded a two percent reduction on entertainment tax, support for digital boards for publicity, and an increase in the existing welfare fund, as promised by Mayor Balen earlier.

Currently, the metropolis has given permission to install digital boards only in certain areas. This has caused problems in the promotion of the films, according to the filmmakers. Actor and director Nirmal Sharma, who participated in the meeting, said that the filmmakers have requested Mayor Balen to facilitate these demands.

The filmmakers said that the pandemic-affected industry would be relieved if the entertainment tax was waived. Balen announced a two percent entertainment tax rebate as soon as he was elected the KMC mayor. Ashok Sharma, Nirmal Sharma, Deepashree Niraula, Nischal Basnet, Khagendra Lamichhane, Ravindra Khadka and others participated in the discussion.
