KATHMANDU, March 7: The Free Student Union (FSU) polls in the remaining campuses under the Tribhuvan University (TU) have been postponed after the Election Commission (EC) directed the TU not to hold any elections after the election code of conduct for the local election came into effect.

The EC issued two letters to the TU on Sunday and Monday, urging it not to hold the FSU polls in any of the campuses. It is unethical to hold polls in campuses after implementation of the election code of conduct, states the letter of the EC.

The FSU polls scheduled for Monday in RR Campus, Kathmandu has been also put off following the EC direction. There are 60 constituent and 1,084 affiliated campuses under the TU. The FSU elections were held in around 250 campuses on March 1.

The EC states that the election code of conduct applies for individuals, officials, and different bodies and institutions since March 1 while the rule will be effective for candidates of local units from April 29.
