GORKHA, Oct 16: A decorated palanquin with ‘fulpati’ has been dispatched to Hanumandhoka of Kathmandu from the Gorkha Durbar Dashain Ghar. The helpers at the Gorkha Durbar send off the palanquin with the fulpati to Kathmandu at the auspicious hour on Tuesday morning after performing the due rituals.
The palanquin will be carried to Kathmandu in a private car. The fulpati will be installed at the Dashai Ghar in Hanumandhoka Palace with fervor and gaiety in the evening today as per the time-honoured tradition once it reaches Hanumandhoka.
'Fulpati' sent to Hanumandhoka from Gorkha
Fulpati is an assortment of five different plants that is anointed and installed at the Dashain Ghars, the special place in the house for performing puja during the Dashain festival. These plants are considered auspicious.
Fulpati is also installed at the Dashai Ghar at Gorkha Durbar on the occasion of Fulpati, the seventh day of the 10-day Bada Dashain, the biggest festival of Nepal.
The tradition of taking fulpati from Gorkha to Kathmandu was started from the time of King Prithvi Narayan Shah, the king of Gorkha, who started ruling from the Hanumandhoka Durbar of Kathmandu after conquering Kathmandu in 1768 during the national unification campaign that he initiated. RSS
