KATHMANDU, Feb 2: The Gurkha Army Ex-Servicemen's Organization (GAESO) has asked the British government, and specifically General Sir Patrick Sanders, chief of army staff of Britain, who is on a visit to Nepal to address the long-standing inequalities faced by Nepali Gorkha soldiers.
During a high-profile meeting in Kathmandu, attended by Nepal's Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Foreign Minister NP Saud, and key officials, GAESO highlighted the urgent need to resolve issues of discrimination and unfair treatment that have persisted for over two centuries.

PM Dahal affirmed his commitment to ending these disparities, emphasizing ongoing efforts for meaningful dialogue with the British authorities. A memorandum, detailing the grievances and demands of the Gorkha community, was presented to Prime Minister Dahal. Earlier, the memorandum of the same issue submitted by GAESO to Prime Minister Dahal was also submitted to the British prime minister through the British Embassy in Kathmandu.
Similarly, GAESO has set a six-month deadline for the resolution of these matters, threatening significant actions if progress is not made. The organization also advocates for inclusive representation in future negotiations, ensuring all Gorkha voices are heard.
The visit of the British Army chief to Nepal has sparked optimism, with Nepali officials now openly supporting the call for equal pensions for Gorkha soldiers, a move they argue would not financially burden Britain but significantly benefit the Gorkha community.
