KATHMANDU, Nov 4: Police have arrested Maya Sherchan, wife of gangster Samir Man Singh Basnet for her alleged involvement in the murder of Sharad Gauchan, President of Federation of Contractors’ Association of Nepal.

Sherchan was arrested from Swayambhu. Maya has been accused of providing weapons to Amar Bahadur Thapa and Lopsang Sherpa. Police have also found that Maya was working on her husband's directive to form a new gang, manage weapons and transfer money from Hundi.
Chief of Metropolitan Crime Division, Dhiraj Pratap Singh said that Maya was arrested for her role in weapons management. Upon knowing that Samir Man was operating from the prison itself, the police had transferred him to Mustang's prison. However, following a writ from his family members, he was brought to Central Jail in Kathmandu.
