Gaurachan being observed in Tarai

MAHENDRANAGAR, Sept 12: Mithilaanchal in the Tarai is celebrating Gaurachan today, the second biggest festival among Madhesi community behind Chhath, which falls on the fourth day of the bright half of the Nepali Month of Bhadra as per the lunar calendar.

MAHENDRANAGAR, Sept 12: Mithilaanchal in the Tarai is celebrating Gaurachan today, the second biggest festival among Madhesi community behind Chhath, which falls on the fourth day of the bright half of the Nepali Month of Bhadra as per the lunar calendar. 


On the Chautha Chandra as part of the festival, devotees fast. Puja is performed in the courtyard and prasad like fruits, sweets, and curd is offered to various deities like Ganesh and Chanddev.

Various delicacies are cooked at home. On the fourth day, deity Chanddev is offered prasad like vegetables, sweets, fruits, and curd. Prasad is prepared on the day and puja is performed in the evening. 


One Hemang Thakur is believed to have brought the festival into practice after he was blessed with fortunes on the day.  RSS
