Glimpses of everyday life

No noise, no chaos,no pollution; just the Bagmati river, shimmering in the moonlight And in the stifled light of a myriad stars.
By Bhuwan Thapaliya

No noise, no chaos,no pollution;

just the Bagmati river, shimmering in the moonlight

And in the stifled light of a myriad stars.

Sitting in the living room watching the slits

Of moonlight coming  through the louvered window,

I sip a cup of lemon tea and think about those

Who are terribly hit  by the sudden freeze

in the economy .

Incessant rain since Friday affects everyday life

No, no, no.

No, I can’t wait to have the whole world around me.

I don’t want to be confined  in my house;

I prefer to walk right through the crowds.

No noise, no chaos,  no pollution;

but where are the glimpses of the everyday life.

Where? I am missing,

 I am terribly missing the glimpses of everyday life.

Small children going to the school

 Holding their parents hand.

Emancipated smile on the face of a woman

 Driving an electric tempo  in the streets of Kathmandu.

 An elderly man having tea and happily gossiping

With his friends at the roadside tea stalls

Far away from his children’s reverie.

And I miss  looking at an old Nepalese woman

In her traditional attire feeding pigeons at

Hanumandhoka Durbar Square  with pigeons all around.

I am missing the glimpses of everyday life.

No noise, no chaos, no pollution

But where is the life.
