GMR provides three-month long vocational training to 23 locals of Upper Karnali hydro project area

KATHMANDU, March 28: The GMR Energy Groups, which is developing the 900-MW Upper Karnali Hydropower Project, has provided a three-month long vocational training to 23 candidates selected from the project area.

KATHMANDU, March 28: The GMR Energy Groups, which is developing the 900-MW Upper Karnali Hydropower Project, has provided a three-month long vocational trainings to 23 candidates selected from the project area.


According to the GMR Upper Karnali Hydropower Project, the residential training was provided to them in New Delhi, India. Entire cost of their travel and logistics was borne by the project.

The training program was organized from January 23 to March 23. All the candidates participating in the training are now back in Nepal. They are expected to utilize their vocational skills to generate income, possibly within the project. 


According to the project, four people received basic computer training, while six other received electrical and house wiring training. Similarly, basic welding and fabrication training was provided to two candidates and excavator operator training to three other candidates. The remaining eight candidates received multi-cuisine cook training. 


A total of 52 candidates from Aathbis municipality of Dailekh district and Turmakhand Rural Municipality in Achham district had applied for the training program. Of them, 23 candidates were shortlisted for the training program of their choice. 


Chief Executive Officer of GMR Energy SN Barde handed over certificates to the candidates upon completion of their training.
