KATHMANDU, May 17: The online transactions have taken pace after the country started facing disruption on in-person trading due to risk of the coronavirus infection.
According to Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), transactions worth more than Rs 7.87 billion were carried out through various e-commerce platforms during the first nine months of the current fiscal year. The amount was recorded for 1,140,956 transactions made through the online system.

The online transactions started to flourish mainly after the government enforced a nationwide lockdown for the first time on March 24, 2020 to contain further spread of COVID-19. It is gaining popularity in the ongoing crisis of the second wave of the pandemic disease, according to NRB officials.
According to NRB, online transactions worth Rs 1.05 billion were recorded in a single month from mid-March to mid-April this year.
