Government felicitates country’s largest taxpayers

KATHMANDU, Nov 18: The government has felicitated over a dozen companies for paying highest taxes in the last Fiscal Year 2016/17. 


As the largest taxpayer of the country, Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd won award from the government at a ceremony held to mark the ‘7th National Tax Day’ in the capital on Saturday. 


Minister for Finance Yuba Raj Khatiwada felicitated Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd along with other 13 companies and an individual for their biggest contribution to the state coffer through tax.

However, despite the felicitation, the amount of the tax they paid was not revealed. 


Himal Power Ltd was the largest taxpaying industry excluding tobacco and liquor industries. 


In the agro and livestock sector, Probiotech Industries Pvt Ltd filed highest amount of income tax in the review period. This industry under the Nimbus Holdings Pvt Ltd deals with around 20 products in animal feed, another 20 in feed supplements and 20 more in fine chemicals, vaccines and medicines.


Chhimek Laghubitta Bittaya Sanstha Ltd won the accolade for becoming the biggest income tax payer among cooperatives and microfinance institutions of the country. 


Likewise, Nabil Bank Ltd was also felicitated for paying the most income tax among bank and financial institutions and remittance companies. Nepal Reinsurance Company (among insurance companies), Noble Medical College and Teaching Hospital Ltd (among health and education service providers) and F1 Soft International Pvt Ltd (information technology sector) also got awarded for becoming the biggest taxpayers in their respective sectors. 


Taragaon Regency Hotels Ltd (tourism sector) and Sipradi Trading Pvt Ltd (trading business) were also facilitated at the ceremony for paying highest income taxes in 2016/17. Toward companies with annual turnover up to Rs 400 million, Nepal Investment Pvt Ltd was awarded for paying highest amount of income tax. Nepal Stock Exchange Ltd was felicitated for paying highest amount of income tax among the list of companies which have annual turnover between Rs 400 million and Rs 800 million. 


Siddhartha Shumsher JB Rana was facilitated for paying the highest income tax as an individual taxpayer. 


Finance Minister Khatiwada also facilitated Ghorahi Cement Pvt Ltd for paying highest amount of value added tax in 2016/17 and for filing tax details and tax on time in the last 10 years. 


The government has been felicitating companies along with an individual for paying highest amount of taxes for last few years. Government officials say that the felicitation is aimed at giving an honor to the taxpayers and encouraging others to duly pay taxes to the government.
