KATHMANDU, Sept 21: Efforts to address the concerns of government teachers have hit an impasse as a meeting convened for this purpose failed to yield a consensus.

The meeting, which took place from 8 AM to 9 AM, involved discussions between Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Education Science and Technology Minister Ashok Kumar Rai, the Education Secretary, representatives of the Nepal Teachers' Federation, and members of the Higher Secondary Teachers Union Nepal (HISTUN).

Unfortunately, the meeting concluded without an agreement, as the government was unable to accede to the teachers' demands. The teachers had proposed that the government provide written assurances regarding their concerns and the amendment of relevant legislation. However, the federation indicated that the government was not willing to commit to this.

Education Minister Ashok Kumar Rai, during the meeting, reiterated the government's willingness to address the teachers' concerns, emphasizing that while the government strives to motivate teachers, budget constraints in the education sector present challenges.

Following the lack of consensus in the talks, teachers have now initiated protests in Maitighar, Kathmandu.
