KATHMANDU, May 31: Government has aimed to extend electricity access to cent percent population in the next two years.
For this purpose, the government will be promoting micro and small hydropower projects and solar power projects in the remote areas, which do not have access to the grid based electricity supply system. As announced in the budget for the fiscal year 2023/24, the government will also be promoting production of different forms of alternative energy for the purpose.
900 megawatts of electricity will be produced in a year
Likewise, the government has announced to increase per capita electricity consumption to 400 units per hour in the next fiscal year. This is expected to significantly lower imports of petroleum products.
Similarly, finalizing a modality to construct 1,200 MW Budhi Gandaki Hydropower Project and Dudh Koshi Hydropower Project has been planned for the next fiscal year.
The government said it will give priority to promote green energy and clean energy generating projects. For this purpose, a total budget of Rs 1.74 billion has been allocated for promotion of alternative energy.
