KATHMANDU, Sept 25: The Supreme Court (SC) has issued an order in the name of government to appear before the court for a hearing on Sudan scam.
A division bench of Justices Govinda Prasad Upadhyay and Sharada Prasad Ghimire asked the government for the same, said Assistant-Spokesperson at SC, Bishwaraj Poudel, on Sunday.
Although the Special Court had found the accused of the scam guilty on 13 February, 2012, the SC ordered the defendants to appear in the court, reasoning it was worth of consideration based on the principle of criminal justice.
The scam involves the embezzlement of money worth millions of rupees while procuring logistics for Nepal Police personnel deployed in Darfur, Sudan.
Bahadur Gurung, Shambhu Bharati, Om Bikram Rana and Ramesh Chand Thakuri had appealed before the SC following the Special Court's verdict. The highest court of the country has asked the government to appear in the court to deliberate on the appeals. RS
