KATHMANDU, Jan 20: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has accused the government of not coordinating with the local units for the prevention and control of the third wave of COVID-19.

KMC Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya said that the federal and provincial governments and the district administration office have not coordinated with the local government for the prevention and control of the third wave of COVID-19. Mayor Shakya said that although the main responsibility of implementing the government decision lies with the local units, the government has not taken the advice and suggestions of the metropolis in any of the recent decisions regarding COVID-19.

Shakya further said that the government made every decision in coordination with the local unit during the first wave of COVID-19. He argued that loss would be lessened if the government moves forward in coordination with the local units.

While alleging that the vaccination against COVID-19 is being delayed, Mayor Shakya said that if the metropolis was given the responsibility of vaccination, everyone could have been vaccinated already without any hassles. Chief Shakya also said that the movement inside and outside the Kathmandu Valley should be tightened as the infection of COVID-19 is on the rise.
