KATHMANDU, August 2: Prem Suwal, Member of Parliament from the Nepal Workers and Peasants Party, has said that the government has not paid attention to seeking an alternative to fossil fuels.

He said this while speaking at the meeting of the House of Representatives on Tuesday. He objected to the fact that although the price of petrol has been reduced in the international market, it has not been reduced in the Nepali market. He said that even when the accumulated loss of Nepal Oil Corporation has reached Rs 31 billion, the government has not thought about an alternative to fossil fuels.

MP Suwal said that the government has earned Rs 16 billion from the 364 megawatts of electricity sold to India, but it is necessary to give electricity to Nepalis at a cheaper price rather than selling it to India.

He said that it is clear that India wants to keep Nepal in its grip if India is making public its plan to buy electricity produced by projects with only Indian investment. He said that the ruling parties are going to appoint judges through a power-sharing deal and that they should appoint judges who can make the courts free from corruption.
