GORKHA, August 12: The 22 to 30 km section of Gorkha-Barpak road has not been blacktopped yet. The Lohani and Brothers Pvt Ltd took the responsibility of paving the eight kilometer-long road section at a cost of Rs 132.2 million.

The construction company has not been able to complete this road, even after seven years of signing the contract. The contract was signed on 16 July, 2015. More than 20 percent work is still left on the said road section. According to the agreement, the construction work should have been completed within two years from the date of the agreement. However, if they work at this pace, it will take another two years to complete the project.

Engineer of 11 Km Chhepetar Baluswara Barpak Road Project, Bishnu Pandey said that the construction company has already received 75 percent of the amount mentioned in the contract. The deadline, which has been extended several times, expired on 13 April, 2022. Similarly, preparations have been made to extend the deadline by one more year due to the 12th amendment to the Public Procurement Regulations.

Earlier, the government extended the contract for one year due to the impacts of the earthquake and shortage of workers in the pandemic. This gave the contractor some relief. Local residents are angry as instead of taking action against these companies which are not completing the work on time, the government is extending the deadline.
