KATHMANDU, July 15: The government has extended the deadlines of the contracts for development projects by another six months citing the problems that the contractors have faced amid the ongoing lockdown.

According to the Federation of Contractors’ Associations of Nepal, a cabinet meeting held on Monday decided to give the leeway to those contractors, who have already signed agreement with the government and crossed termination date for the completion of the undertaken tasks during the lockdown period. Citing the threat of coronavirus, the government had enforced lockdown since March 24.

The construction projects have been facing shortage of laborers and disruption in supply of construction materials due to the lockdown. The umbrella organization of the contractors has been demanding the government to declare force majeure to extend the deadlines of the running projects.
